Case Studies & Client Testimonials

Sodelva Valenzuela
She is licensed by Department
of Health Services as a foster home provider for
over twenty-five years. Three of our agency’s clients
have lived in her adult foster home for over twenty years.
She represents one of over 75 foster home providers
used by LULAC Project Amistad to provide housing
to clients served by our agency. They provide a
valuable service since there are not enough placement
facilities available for our clients.

Her continuous support for our clients is deeply appreciated.
Brieza A. Miller
Has been one of our clients
for nine years. Our agency was her guardian for eight
years but last year the Court ruled that she no
longer needed a guardian although our agency continued
to be her fiscal agent (money manager). Breiza goes to
Careers Centers of El Paso where she has learned typing
and other skills. She enjoys cooking and is a great
Dallas Cowboy fan. She was born in Germany but is a
US Citizen since her dad was station in Germany when she was born.
Manuel Pena
Has been our client for over twenty years.
He is fifty years old and very independent. He lives
alone in an apartment in Central El Paso. He was
born in El Paso and has a sister in California.
Miguel Rodriguez
He is seventy-one years of age and
was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and lives in
Mrs. Valenzuela’s foster home in Mission
Valley (Lower valley). He has lived there for over
twenty-five years and has no family. He is one of
the original clients served by our agency when the
agency was first established in 1976.
Bernardino Mendoza
He was referred to our agency
by Adult Protective Services and has been our client
for over twenty-five years. He too is one of the
original clients served by our agency and also lives in
the foster home owned and operated by Ms. Valenzuela.
Alfredo Campos
He is sixty-nine years old and very
independent. He lives by himself and does various
odd jobs in his community in Mission Valley (Lower Valley).
He was born in El Paso and has a brother who visits him often.
Marjorie Anderson
She is seventy-eight years old. She was
born in Oak Park, Illinois and moved to El Paso in
the late 1980’s. She is independent minded and lives
in a Mission Valley elderly apartment complex. She has
been a client of our agency for over ten years and
loves to paint and spend time with her dog Bengie.
She recently said that LULAC Project Amistad “gave
me the assistance to be independent and stay home with
my dog Bengie.”
Ward's Home
It is not unusual to find a new referral living in conditions
such as depicted in these photographs. When this occurs,
our caseworkers coordinate the cleanup of their home
and, if assigned as their guardian, become responsible for their well-being.
